What are coronaviruses?

Coronaviruses are a family of related viruses including "the common cold," SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and COVID-19. Coronaviruses cause respiratory tract infections. Humans transmit a coronavirus by spreading droplets through coughing or sneezing.

CDC guidelines recommend cleaning and disinfecting surfaces to reduce the spread of Coronaviruses:

Cleaning refers to the removal of dirt and impurities, including germs, from surfaces. Cleaning alone does not kill germs. But by removing the germs, it decreases their number and therefore any risk of spreading infection.
Disinfecting works by using chemicals, for example EPA-registered disinfectants, to kill germs on surfaces. This process does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs. But killing germs remaining on a surface after cleaning further reduces any risk of spreading infection.
High touch surfaces include: Tables, doorknobs, light switches, counter tops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, sinks, etc.
